Civic Area and Monument
The heart of Plaza Sergio Silva was designed as a large, open esplanade, whose polished concrete paving facilitates mass gatherings, fairs, and civic events, with fluid, accessible routes connecting the main access points to the central monument. At its center rises a sculptural installation conceived as a reflection of local identity: a set of metal volumes evoking the sails of the sailboats that ply the coast, painted in the coral and turquoise tones characteristic of the Bay of Los Vilos, created in collaboration with artisans and artists from the commune.

Green Area, Play Equipment, and Tourist Interpretation
The plaza integrates a green island of jacaranda and carob trees that provide generous shade, with buried drip irrigation systems that ensure the vegetation’s survival with minimal water consumption. In the south wing, an inclusive play and sports area combines rope swings, musical drums, and exercise equipment, while Corten steel information panels place visitors within the natural and cultural context of Los Vilos, lit at night with low-consumption LED technology.

Construction and Community Ownership
The project, inaugurated in March 2025 after seven months of construction, was carried out with local labor and technical guidance from the Municipal Public Works Department. Since its opening, the community has made the space its own: schoolchildren practice folk dance on the esplanade, entrepreneurs set up food fairs under the shade pergola, and groups of senior citizens gather each afternoon for guided walks.
