Concept and Linear Articulation
The project begins by recognizing the El Consuelo Canal not as a marginal element, but as a potential axis of urban cohesion. The proposal unfolds a lightweight metal structure that aligns with the canal’s course, flowing in plan and elevation with a loose geometry: its supports vary in height and its modulation adapts to the topography, allowing the footbridge to rise and absorb any change in level without interrupting the flow of water.

Multisystem Platform and Mixed Uses
The footbridge functions as a multisystem public platform, capable of simultaneously housing shade and climate comfort systems, kiosks and local commerce stalls that promote craft businesses, rest and gathering modules with integrated urban furniture, and environmental interpretation walkways where educational panels provide information on the ecology of the canal and its watershed.

Access Plazas: Urban Landmarks
At both ends of the corridor, the footbridge leads into access plazas built on existing esplanades or slight rises in terrain. Both plazas function as reference landmarks and civic gathering points, visually and functionally marking the beginning and end of this urban corridor.

Revaluation and Sustainability Strategy
With this design, the El Consuelo Canal ceases to be a simple irrigation and drainage ditch, transforming instead into quality public space. The metal structure is modular and prefabricated, facilitating its installation and maintenance, while much of the energy for nighttime lighting comes from solar panels integrated into the shade trusses, with sensors that adjust light levels and reduce consumption.

The expected result is a corridor that revitalizes a forgotten stretch, boosts the local economy, strengthens the community’s connection with its river surroundings, and becomes an icon of urban innovation for Salamanca.
